The game will auto-detect your resolution and add it to the options, but if the display is too big for what the game is able to render it will show up with the letterbox. The game has a limit to what it is able to render.
For example, if you are playing an older game that is made for a 4:3 monitor and you attempt to play it on a monitor that it is 16:9 the letterbox will show to keep the integrity of the game. We try to do this so if you do play at your native resolution on a wider display your game is not pixelated or stretched out.
